Types of Hernia Surgeries

Hernia is very common which prevails like a swelling or a bulge when an organ or a fatty tissue squashes through any weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue called fascia. The most common types of Hernia are inner groin Hernia (inguinal), in the outer groin (femoral), resulting from the incision (incisional), from belly button (umbilical), in upper stomach (hiatal), and since birth (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia – CDH). Primarily, all hernias are caused by pressure and weakness or opening in muscle or fascia. Hernia repair surgery is a very common surgical procedure in the world and you’ll find some of the best hernia surgeons in Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana, and many other cities.

Hernia is very painful and uncomfortable. So, doctors recommend undergoing surgery which is very helpful as Hernia can’t be cured by medications. Hernia surgery helps in pain relief, returning hernia organs back to right position, and strengthening the weakened muscles or fascia. Expert doctors suggest the type of surgery to be done based on the severity of the Hernia in a patient.

Open Hernia Repair Surgery

Under the supervision of general, spinal or local anesthetic, a surgeon makes an incision of 2.5 to 3 inches long in the abdomen region and the bulge of Hernia is pushed back to its original position. This kind of surgery is also called as tension repair as this procedure applies tension in the surrounding muscles. Sometimes, surgeons use a piece of mesh to correct the damage in muscle as the mesh does not apply much pressure on the surrounding tissues. Recovery time for an open Hernia surgery is nearly 3 weeks. In medical terms, this kind of surgery is called Herniorrhaphy or Hernioplasty.

Laparoscopic (Keyhole) surgery

Under the supervision of a general anesthetic, a surgeon makes several small incisions which allow the surgeon to use tiny instruments like a thin tube, Laparoscope, and a tiny video camera. The surgeon also uses a small section of plastic mesh to fix the Hernia. This minimally-invasive Hernia repair is less painful and is fast in recovery than open Hernia repair surgery. This procedure is tension-free repair as no tension is applied to muscles. This type of surgery is frequently performed by the best Hernia surgeons in Delhi, Chennai, and other big cities.

3-D Mesh Repair

Three-dimensional repair of Hernia is also a tension-free process in which 3-D patch matches are used to repair Hernias. The mesh devices help surgeons in performing secure and low-profile Hernia repairs. The mesh device consists of a 3-D underlay which is inserted into the Hernia hole or defect, and then the surgeon pulls the string attached to the underlay to position the mesh inside. After pulling the string, the underlay becomes flat and forms a secure layer of mesh under the muscle wall. This process is extremely fast in recovery and is less time-consuming. It is also more comfortable for the patients compared to other types of Hernia surgeries.

Basic Introduction to IVF Treatment

In vitro fertilization, or IVF treatment as it is popularly known, is known to have brought happiness to many couples and households, the happiness of having a child. With rapid lifestyle changes, issues related to sexual health of women, such as PCOS have been on the rise in the recent years. As more and more women find themselves faced with the issue of not getting pregnant, they are looking at IVF treatment as a solution. The increase in number of IVF centers in India is a proof. But before one takes a decision to opt for the treatment, it’s impertinent that one knows about the technicalities of the process.

The first step of IVF is ovulation induction. The fertility specialist, after monitoring the menstruation cycle, makes sure that the ovaries are producing eggs and checks the hormone level, amongst other things. During this period, some women take hormone pill. It stimulates the ovary to produce eggs and having a higher egg count increases the chances of fertilization.

The next step is egg retrieval, and women may face some pain during this process but pain medication is given to them to reduce any discomfort. In the process, a thin needle is passed through the upper vaginal wall and by using vaginal ultrasound, the follicle fluid is sucked out slowly, under low suction pressure. Once the fluid is out, the egg, called the oocyte, is isolated and put in a petridish and is kept in an incubator.

As the egg is retrieved, the next step is fertilization. After securing a sperm sample, either from the partner or a donor, the most active sperm is mixed with the egg in a special chamber. The egg gets fertilized and is kept in a suitably controlled environment to allow it to grow into a healthy embryo.
The last step involves embryo transplant and implantation. The healthiest embryo is chosen to be implanted. For this process, a speculum is placed in the vagina. Then, through a small plastic tube, the embryo is transferred from the cervix to the uterus, thus completing the process. 24 hour bed rest is advised post this procedure.

IVF has changed the life of millions of people, mostly for the better. Reliable and trusted IVF treatment in Delhi and other big cities is easier to find as compared to small towns. Such decisions can be really hard to make, however with the guidance and support of experienced doctors, this process can be a boon to many and bring them unparalleled joy.

3 Foods Causing Infertility

Food is essential for our body to produce energy and indulge in our day to day activities. An inadequate diet gradually makes us weak and feeble. To maintain a healthy life, we should eat at the right time and ensure that our diet is enriched with minerals, proteins and other essential elements that our body requires.

However, for a woman trying to get pregnant, there are certain restrictions as many foods may have an adverse effect on her pregnancy. They may harm the baby’s health that results in low body weight during birth or even miscarriage. Hence, precautions are necessary. If you are unaware of the foods that you should avoid, here is a list that doctors who perform IVF treatment in India suggest:-
Fried Foods

It has been observed that consuming fried foods creates a lot of complications during pregnancy. The types of vegetable oil used for frying are canola, soybean, safflower, corn, and other seed and nut oils. These oils are actually problematic for a pregnant woman or someone trying to get pregnant. They have polyunsaturated fats that when come in contact with oxygen, produce large amounts of damaging free radicals in the body.

Potatoes

Potatoes are a potential threat to a woman’s pregnancy as it may increase the risk of diabetes during pregnancy. Be it boiled, steamed or baked, the sugar in potatoes quickly turn to glucose and increases the insulin level in the body that can harm your health. When potatoes are fried in oil (trans fat), it gravely affects the pregnancy of a woman.

Sea Food

Various seafood are also restricted by doctors to reduce risks during pregnancy. Irrespective of they being fried or non-fried, there are many harmful elements that harm a pregnant lady and her unborn child. Owing to the high water pollution level, most fishes have been exposed to various harmful chemicals that are injurious to the health. Many fishes are found containing high amounts of toxic mercury that can harm the nervous system tremendously.

The aforementioned foods should be avoided to ensure a safe and successful pregnancy.

Diet For Improving The Thyroid Gland Function

The butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of our neck is known as the thyroid gland. It has two side lobes that are connected by the isthmus in the middle. The brownish red colour gland contains many blood vessels that include important nerves required for voice quality. Also, several hormones are secreted from the thyroid gland that control various bodily functions like our metabolism, growth, body temperature, etc. Also, brain development in infants is highly dependent on the thyroid gland.

To ensure proper secretion of the thyroid gland, necessary steps should be taken like selecting our diet wisely. The thyroid gland is a very crucial part of our body and in case of any complication arises, immediate thyroid treatment in India is required. However, to avoid such situations, mentioned below are 4 foods that we should consume to facilitate our thyroid secretion:-

Seaweed

Iodine is an essential mineral required for proper secretion of the thyroid gland. Studies show that even a little deficiency of Iodine in our body leads to thyroid related complications. Besides iodized salt, seaweed is one of the biggest sources of Iodine. We can prepare it in any way as long as the iodine level in the seaweed does not drop.

Nuts

Selenium is another nutrient that is heavily necessary to control the secretion of the thyroid gland. Deficiency of selenium in our body is one of the root causes of thyroid disorders. Salted nuts like Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and hazelnuts are some of the sources of selenium one can find.

Fish (Baked)

Inflammation in the thyroid gland is an issue that many encounters. This causes several problems in our body and increases the risk of Hashimoto’s disease. Doctors suggest eating baked fish like salmon, cod and other fishes that are rich in selenium and Omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients and minerals are highly essential to avoid hypothyroidism.

Yogurt

Dairy products such as yogurt, milk, ice-cream contain high levels of iodine. Iodine helps to prevent the enlargement of the thyroid gland that is often referred to as Goiter. Also, yogurt has vitamin D that helps in regulating the immune system of our body. Deficiency of vitamin D results in complications like Hashimoto’s disease, etc.

The aforementioned foods are very essential for ensuring our health. However, if you ever face any complication, visit a doctor as soon as possible. As thyroid treatment in India is quite advanced, professional doctors provide good treatment to cure it.
